Fill My Cup, Lord

I can hear in my memories Mama playing our old upright piano and singing beautifully, “Fill My Cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord,” with all her heart. Her left-handed playing was unusual and I loved hearing it. Thanks to her love for sitting down to the piano and singing southern Gospel and the old hymns those songs and their messages have stayed with me all these years. Mama moved to Heaven several years ago and left behind a legacy of love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.

When I saw the hibiscus flower after a long rain, I immediately heard in my spirit that request, “Fill my cup, Lord.” I was disappointed because the petals were a bit droopy even as the bloom faced upward instead of looking fresh and strong. As I thought about it since then I think it was very appropriate. Sometimes when I am already in a state of closeness with God I still ask for more filling of his Holy Spirit. I just want more of Him. Then other times I feel a bit limp, worn, weak, or just tired and ask for that same filling of my cup as I hold it up to Him in my spirit. He never disappoints in response to my request and always fills and refreshes me.

As Christians, we all have times in our lives when we are so close to Jesus and just want to enjoy even more of Him at the moment. Those are such sweet times. We also have those tough times when we need a fresh filling; a fresh rain if you will, of Jesus. Those times are even sweeter in that moment, I think. He is always there ready to do the filling. All we have to do is first ask Jesus to forgive us our sins and come into our life and live as our Lord and Savior. He will fill us with His Spirit and live in us and through us daily. We all have a God-shaped space in us that only the one true Living God who made us will fit and fill completely. Anything other than Him is not enough and is the wrong thing to try to put there. I know from the time I did that as a child I have never been without a conscious sense of His presence in and around me. I could not have made it through some of the hard times of life in any kind of good shape without Jesus in my life.

I sincerely hope if you haven’t invited Jesus to be your Lord and Savior that you will. You will never regret it and never be alone if you just ask Him. He’s waiting for you. He loves you. Let Jesus be your Cup Filler and fill you with the Living Water that only comes from Him. I hope to meet you in Heaven one day.

An example prayer for salvation through Jesus is simple, much like: “Dear God in Heaven, I know I’m a sinner and I need your forgiveness for those sins. Wash me clean and make me new. Please come into my life and live in me as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for living, dying, rising to life again, and for saving me so I can be yours and live for You on earth and then live with You one day in Heaven. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.”

I’d like to hear about it if you want to share.

Be blessed, friends.
