I know this is not the Christmas season. Sometimes I enjoy playing Christmas music during other times of the year. Most of us have a favorite Christmas carol. It could be a song from childhood that we sang in school, at church, or one we heard on the radio. I have several favorites. “O Little Town of Bethlehem” seems so restful and peaceful to me. I love the story it tells of this little outlying town not far from Jerusalem. It tells of how humans have been waiting for the promise of their savior to be fulfilled, and how it finally is on this night through Jesus. In the song, the drummer boy was with the wise men when they worshipped Jesus. He was concerned that he didn’t have a gift that was good enough for the newborn King. According to the lyrics, he played his drum the best he ever had for Jesus and was overjoyed to. His reward was Jesus’ smile.
The message in “O Come Let Us Adore Him,” calls me to slow down and take time to adore Jesus. “Oh, Holy Night” is probably my favorite carol, filling me with awe to think of holy baby Jesus taking on human flesh to show us the way to the Heavenly Father through Jesus. “Little Drummer Boy” is right up there with it and makes me cry every time. While listening to it in the car, the thought came to mind that I want to play my drum for Jesus. I told Him I will. Then it occurred to me to ask what my drum is, and am I playing it for Him? I believe His answer came back to me that writing is my drum, along with some other things. That made me sit up straight and ask Him to show me adjustments to make to ensure I’m playing my drum for Him at my very best. I know that I have not consistently played my very best for Him in times past. Sometimes I did. Sometimes I “had too much to do” to slow down enough to write. I want to change that. When I look into Jesus’ face one day, I want Him to smile at me for my drum well played.
What about you? Do you know what your drum is? Are you playing it? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Have a great week, friends.
Cindy,
I like it. How about if you give this one for the July meeting? Kind of a Christmas in July message. I’m going to read a poem I wrote called “God Blessed America” for this month’s devotional. I’ve read it before, but I think the message is timely.
