As I was waking up this morning talking to God I thought of how I might get into the habit of sending a morning greeting to my son. Then I thought of doing the same with my daughter-in-love, his sweet wife and with my daughter who is still living at home. I have always called my children by the pet name, Sweetheart, and sometimes, Sweety Pye, since they were born because that’s what they are to me in a mother to child sort of way. When Lauren married my son I began calling her Sweety Pye. Then my train of thought went to her greetings to me which remind me of bright happy sunshine, a lot like my daughter, and how I would love to write letters to all three of them. What a wonderful way to start off the new year! Remembering the pet name, now I had the greeting for these letters I would write; Dear Sweetheart.
God began to speak to me the significance of the letters and how they would be lasting. These would be letters that they could read more than once; something to keep. God then guided me to remember that He wrote letters to the early Christians through Paul which are preserved in the Bible. This is so exciting to me! This put a whole new solidity in my mind to the letters Paul wrote. I knew God told Paul what to say, but I never thought of it in the exact terms that God actually wrote those letters to people He loved, and that they were meant to have lasting significance that is so wide spread. It wasn’t just for them that He wrote those letters, but to us in the here and now. God had a plan and a purpose for it all. It just amazes me the older I get and the more I comprehend how huge and awesome and all encompassing God is! I know I’ll never absorb it all. As a human I don’t have that capacity, but I can stay open for God to show me more and to show me how to use that for my benefit and for others around me. As I comprehend and digest what He gives to me and keep myself open for more I can grow in ways I never dreamed of. God can lead me to new depths, heights, and far reaching widths, as well as open my eyes to things I might never have seen otherwise. The more I share of all this, the more His living water and His spirit will flow through me keeping me refreshed as well as refreshing others as I share.
I sit here amazed as I ponder all this new awareness God has doused me with. I am so humbled that God wanted to adopt me into His family. He is my Heavenly Father, my Savior, my Strong Tower, my Fortress, my Deliverer, and so much more. (Psalm 91:1-16, Psalm 18:1-6) My prayer for you this year is that you will come to know the one true Living God as your Savior, that you will ask Him to come into your life and be all these wonderful things to you if you haven’t already done so. My prayer for you who have already done this is that you continue to grow in God and that you become closer to Him than you ever have been before for your own self and that God uses you to bless others as He blesses you. We can write letters on people’s hearts with or without writing them on paper by simply loving them, and it would be a wonderful lasting blessing for the sharer and the receiver. I have shared some of my experience of God with you and I would love to hear of your walk with Him.
May God richly bless you, my friend.
